Video Transcript:

This is a tough one because things happen to us that we just can't control. But it's so important because as you go out into the world, and you interact with people it will become obvious what you chose not to heal.

You'll end up doing more harm than good. So do the work and heal and remember you can't fix what you don't understand.

My key takeaways from the video:

Do it anyway!

In life what's of value to you requires effort to obtain and maintain. Life happens to everyone and many times it’s not pretty. But if you want better, you cannot allow those things to block you from living your best life. So let’s get it done. Do the work to heal because it's worth it. Right!?

Do the work to understand yourself.

Like Taneka said, "you can't fix what you don't understand." Many times we try on our own to overcome these obstacles, struggles, hurts, and pains of life. And for the most part, we can work our way through it. But, inevitably, we can't fully extract the root of the problem alone. We simply don’t have the tools in our toolbox and that’s ok. Here’s my encouragement to you and a few suggestions to help.

Read the Word

Without good direction, people lose their way; the more wise counsel you follow, the better your chances.

Proverbs 11:14 The Message Bible

Listen, reading the Bible, and praying are two of the best ways to help you find answers to life’s difficulties.

Write

I was talking with a friend recently who mentioned that writing is a great way to work through a problem. If that works for you as it does for me, then write.

Talk with a friend

Talking to a friend may help to unearth the root cause of what's bothering you. Make sure it’s someone you can trust to help and not harm you. It’s also important to know they won’t share the details of your conversations.

Seek Professional Counseling

You may need to invest in a counselor. Doing the work to understand yourself could be more than you can handle on your own, which may mean getting professional help. Listen, “counselor” is not a bad word. As I talk with successful people, I’ve learned that some people stay rooted and grounded because they utilize the services of professional counselors. Their lives are all the better because of that decision.

Do what it takes for you to live your best life. It is all about you, not someone else. Embrace the concept, do the work, and live.

  1. Read the Word

  2. Write

  3. Talk with a friend

  4. See a professional counselor
